Le Prix
Le but du prix en enseignement est de reconnaître l’excellence en enseignement et d’en promouvoir la qualité à travers le collège. Tous les membres du personnel enseignant (temps plein, temps partiel et contractuel), militaire et civil, sont éligibles. Chaque année des étudiants posent la candidature de plusieurs professeurs pour ce prix. Un comité composé de deux représentants des étudiants du CMR, trois membres de la faculté ainsi qu'un représentant de la classe de 1965 consulte ceux qui posent des candidatures, les directeurs et les doyens concernés avant de choisir le récipiendaire. Le prix consiste en un chèque de $5000 offert par la classe de 1965, un certificat et une plaque. Le prix est attribué à un professeur en reconnaissance " de son dévouement exemplaire à l'endroit des étudiants, de son engagement et de son enthousiasme vis-à-vis de l'enseignement et de son attitude extraordinaire à stimuler l'apprentissage.
Les lauréats de ce prix sont tenus en haute estime tant par leurs étudiants que par leurs collègues au CMR. Le prix est présenté à l'automne lors d’une conférence publique donnée par le récipiendaire.
The History (en traduction)
The story of the Class of 65 Award for Teaching Excellence started in 1989 with a conversation between Classmates 6588 Steve Arnold, 6584 Keith Ambachtsheer, and 6592 Tom Barton about a possible Class of ’65 gift to RMC to celebrate its 25th year reunion in 1990. Barton, an RMC faculty member on medical leave, spoke eloquently about the importance of recognizing teaching excellence at RMC. Arnold, on the Queen’s faculty, outlined how teaching excellence is recognized there. The idea of a teaching excellence award was discussed with RMC Principal John Plant, who offered his enthusiastic support. A selection process was devised, and the financial recognition was set at $3,000.
The Class responded with enthusiasm, $15,000 was raised,
and the launch of the Class of ’65 Teaching Excellence Award was announced.
Steve Arnold joined the Award selection committee as Class rep. The Award became
an immediate success, and has by some been described as ‘the best Class gift
ever’.
Five years later, with the 30th year reunion
approaching, the Class decided to place the Award on a permanent footing through
a $60,000 endowment. As the successful 1995 funding campaign drew to a close,
originator Tom Barton lost his battle against cancer. RMC Commandant and
Classmate 6446 Charles Emond unveiled a plaque in the entrance to the RMC
Library celebrating the Teaching Excellence Award winners, and Tom Barton’s
role in inspiring the Award. 5990 Dave Borrowman took over as Class rep on the
Award selection committee.
As part of
the 35th reunion preparations, the Class undertook a vigorous
discussion via email and concluded that it wished to set a new standard for
class giving to the College
The successful CAMPAIGN ‘2000’, lead by Keith Ambachtsheer saw 52 Classmates submit commitments totaling $149,000 providing an endowment which will support the $5,000 Class of 65 Award for Teaching Excellence on a permanent footing as well as providing additional funds to recognize other Academic Excellence at the college.
En 2013, à la suite d'une initiative dirigée par l'ancien commandant du CMRC et Classmate 6446 Charles Emond Le Prix de la promotion de 1965 pour l’excellence en enseignement a été offert aux membres du corps professoral du CMRSJ. Il a été largement financé par des membres de la Classe de 65 ainsi que par plusieurs autres contributions significatives, ce qui en a garanti la pérennité initialement au CMRC et maintenant au CMRSJ.
Le
première
récipiendaire de ce prix de $1 000, a été choisi en mai 2013 par un comité
de sélection composé de professeurs, d’étudiants, de quelques membres de
l’administration, ainsi que d’un représentant de notre promotion et ancien
membre du corps professoral, 6401 Claude Belhumeur.
